Happy November!

Squash, apples, carrots, onions, potatoes—all these colder weather crops are reaching the end of their growing seasons and being harvesting and prepared in warm soups, chili's, and roasts. The cold winter weather of the upper Midwest is finally making its way in, but just because the growing season is coming to an end doesn’t mean life on the farm has to stop, and it doesn’t mean your exploration of local destinations has to either. Read on for information about November events, eating local this Thanksgiving, and the Feast! Local Foods Marketplace coming up on December 3rd.

Eat local this Thanksgiving |

Each Thanksgiving, Americans eat over 46 million Turkeys! That's a lot of meat. Support your local farmer (and turkey) this year by buying local, free-range, and organic. Shop at your nearby food co-op, or find a list of turkey growers in the MN Grown Directory HERE. Quantities can be limited, so it is important to contact your farm early to reserve your turkey. Don't eat turkey? Potatoes, carrots, winter squash, apples: these are all foods that you can buy local in the upper Midwest. And don't forget Minnesota grown wild rice! Visit a Minnesota winery to pick up wine for your Thanksgiving dinner or for a host/hostess gift. |
